Households connect directly to city/district WASH institutions, which are responsible for delivering services that safeguard public health and protect the environment. USAID IUWASH PLUS will strengthen the capacity of these institutions through engagement of LG leaders, operator reform, and water resources protection.
USAID IUWASH PLUS activities in strengthening city and district WASH institutional performance is aimed at facilitating improvements in the capacity of local government institutions to regulate, oversee, and deliver WASH services within the Minimum Service Standard requirements. These activities are managed by the Component 2 team and will incorporate successful strategies, approaches, and tools developed under predecessor activities such as IUWASH and Environmental Services Project (ESP) and other existing tools developed by BAPPENAS, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, and the Ministry of Home Affairs. These activities will also encourage key service providers to provide inclusive service to low income communities.
