Celebrating the 2020 World Toilet Day, USAID IUWASH PLUS Held A Talkshow on Sustainable Sanitation for Climate Resilience
On November 18, 2020, USAID IUWASH PLUS collaborated with Cleanomic to hold a talk show to celebrate the 2020 World Toilet Day.
The talk show, which was held online and offline, brought the theme of ‘Sustainable Sanitation for Climate Resilience’. This theme is in line with the focus of the 2020 World Toilet Day.
Mr. Jason Seuc, the Acting Director of the Environment Office of USAID Indonesia and Mrs. Tri Dewi Virgiyanti, Director of Housing and Settlements of the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN) / BAPPENAS opened the talk show.
The talk show featured speakers, Mrs. Kristin Darundiyah, Head of Radiation Protection, Directorate of Environmental Health, Ministry of Health, USAID IUWASH PLUS Senior Specialist On-Site Sanitation, Mr. Adri Ruslan, and the moderator from Cleanomic, Mrs. Denia Isetianti.
During the talk show, the panelists shared information and experiences in implementing sustainable sanitation for climate resilience.
Mrs. Kristin Darundiyah and Mr. Adri Ruslan shared the same view, that septic tanks are as important as the toilets. They reminded everyone that untreated domestic wastewater will pollute the environment and is harmful to the quality of ground water, and as such it can cause various water-borne diseases.
Participants in the talk show included 20 bloggers, journalists from six mainstream media such as KOMPAS and CNN Indonesia, local governments, university students, and community members.
